Pro tip

Print a colour bar on the edge of your film. If the bar shows banding or dropouts, you’ll catch issues early (before a whole run is wasted).

Operator notes

DTF Inks — Operator Notes

Straight from the press room: what keeps colour clean and maintenance sane.

Colour & coverage

  • White underbase first pass should ramp gently; avoid a “pillow” that floats CMYK.
  • Skin tones & brand colours behave better with stable RH and slightly lower head height.
  • Halftones: elliptical/hybrid dots reduce grain when powder blooms at the edge.

Maintenance rhythm

  • Agitate white daily and purge short; long purges waste density.
  • Cap seal health is 80% of “mystery banding” — replace early, not late.
  • 45–55% RH keeps satellites down and peels more consistent.

Press outcomes

  • Greasy halo around solids? Drop pressure first, then temp; check gloss vs. semi-gloss film.
  • Sandy white feel? Under-gel or over-powder; extend gel by 10–15 s or sift lighter.
  • After-image on blacks? Try a lower-temp press stack or shorter dwell.
FAQ

DTF ink questions

What are DTF inks used for?

DTF inks are used to print CMYK colour plus a white underbase onto coated DTF film. After printing, powder is applied and the transfer is heat-pressed onto fabric.

Why is white ink important in DTF printing?

White ink provides the underbase that makes colours pop on dark garments and improves coverage. Stable white handling (agitation and correct profiles) also reduces banding and inconsistent density.

Do you help match ink with film and powder?

Yes. Share your printer model, fabrics, and workflow, and we’ll suggest an ink/film/powder combo and a baseline to start from.
