DTF Powder • Hotmelt adhesive

DTF hotmelt powder for clean edges, soft feel, and durable bonds.

DTF powder is the hotmelt adhesive that bonds your printed film to fabric. The grade you choose (fine/medium/coarse) affects edge sharpness, handfeel, and how forgiving the cure window is. We’ll recommend the best grade for your artwork and garments.

Our TPU-based hotmelt powder adheres strongly to cotton, polyester and cotton–poly blends while keeping a soft, flexible handfeel.

Fine

Best for small text + clean edges.

Medium

Balanced “daily driver” for most work.

Coarse

Can suit heavy fills; watch gel/cure.

Why TapeTech powder

Why our DTF powder stands out

Designed for production workflows: clean handling, reliable adhesion, and a softer finish when applied and cured correctly.

  • Water-resistant, flexible and soft to the touch.
  • Minimal clumping with clean reclaim (when stored dry and closed).
  • Optimised powder removal during the shaking process for cleaner edges.
  • 1 kg metallised, moisture-proof packs for optimum freshness.
Match the stack

Powder performs best with the right film + ink

If your edges look fuzzy or the feel is stiff, it’s often a “stack mismatch”. We’ll help you match powder grade to your film coating and ink profile.

Flow & coverage

  • Fine grade reduces “sugaring” on micro-text; sift very lightly and tap the carrier.
  • Medium grade is the daily driver — balanced coverage for mixed artwork.
  • Coarse grade adds body on big fills but needs a touch more gel to avoid grain.

Gel & cure window

  • Look for a satin crystallisation; glassy ≠ better. Over-gel can feel crunchy.
  • Shakers/ovens: even bed temp beats raw heat. Hot spots cause halos at edges.
  • Heat press: if you see oily halos, drop temp first, then pressure, then dwell.

Environment & handling

  • RH 45–55% keeps static in check and helps fine grades lay smooth.
  • Keep lids closed; moisture uptake makes powder clump and over-deposit.
  • Reclaim cleanly — contaminated powder causes pinholes and inconsistent peel.

Press outcomes

  • Grainy handfeel? Under-gel or over-powder; increase gel 10–15 s or sift lighter.
  • Poor wash? Under-cure; revisit oven temp uniformity and dwell before blaming film.
  • Lifting corners? Check pressure distribution and peel timing (hot/warm vs. cold).
FAQ

DTF powder questions

What does DTF powder do?

DTF powder is the hotmelt adhesive applied to freshly printed film. When gelled and heat-pressed, it bonds the ink layer to the garment and affects durability and handfeel.

Which grade should I use: fine, medium, or coarse?

Fine helps with small text and cleaner edges, medium is the best all-rounder, and coarse can suit heavy fills but needs careful gelling to avoid grainy feel. Tell us your fabrics and artwork and we’ll recommend a grade.

Why do transfers feel grainy or lift on edges?

Grainy feel is usually over-powdering or a gel/cure issue. Lifting edges can be pressure distribution, peel timing, or under-cure. Small adjustments to powder load, gel time and press stack usually fix it.

Not sure which grade?

Tell us your artwork + fabric and we’ll recommend a powder grade.

Share your printer model, film type and press setup too — we’ll give you a safe starting baseline.
